Hello everyone,
How to get C&C Zero Hour to work on Windows 8.1. First right click on the Zero Hour shortcut Properties Compatibility run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 run the game as admin. You will need to create an Options.ini in Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder. Reboot PC, then you'll be good to play.
Recently i decided to play Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour again, which was installed on the computer months ago, but trying to start the game did nothing at all. I have had it working in perfect order before, but now it doesn't. I uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it, but I still have the same problem, which has persisted for several days.
Just to be clear, I am running it is the right compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3), and as administrator. Double clicking on the icon brings up the text box 'Do you want to allow...', and of course you say Yes. After doing this, nothing happens. At all. Not even an error message. I am using a disk copy, bought in the last year, and running the Zero Hour disk brings up the usual menu, and starting the game from here does the same thing.
I know last time I installed it there was a problem, but i cannot remember what I did. I have tried the options.ini file in the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour data folder, which did nothing. I had some issues installing the game, including a 1628 InstallShield error, and a Datgen.exe error, but I have managed to get round this (maybe I have installed it wrong?).
I don't remember ever having an issue like this before, and I have had the game running previously.
Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
Intel Core i7
8.0 GB RAM
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
